Nine celebrities who have served prison time
Even celebrities aren’t above the law
While many things are much easier for celebrities, they are still not above the law. Even professional athletes, actors, and singers end up in court for their mistakes and some even end up behind bars. The latter was the case for these nine celebrities.
Felicity Huffman
Every parent wants their kid to get into a good school. Felicity Huffman did everything she could to make that happen. In 2019, the actress was convicted of fraud after having paid 15,000 dollars for higher grades on her daughter’s exam. The Desperate Housewives star was sentenced to two weeks in a California prison for her crime. She also received a fine of 30,000 dollars and was ordered to complete 250 hours of community service.
Bill Cosby
Bill Cosby was accused of sexual abuse on many accounts. In December of 2015 he was tried for three accusations of sexual abuse towards women. In 2018 he was found guilty of the crimes and faced a prison sentence of three to ten years after first paying a 25,000-dollar fine. He served time for a short while in the Montgomery County Correctional Facility and was later moved to a Pennsylvania state prison. He was placed in solitary confinement and wasn’t allowed any contact with fellow prisoners for the first four months.
Teresa Giudice
In October of 2014, The Real Housewives of New Jersey star, Teresa Giudice and her husband Joe were accused of committing bankruptcy fraud. They both received prison sentences for their crime. Teresa received 11 months and her husband Joe received 41 months. They didn’t serve their sentences in prison at the same time. The judge allowed them to serve out their sentences at separate times to allow one parent to take care of their four daughters while the other was incarcerated.
Robert Downey Jr.
We all know Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man/Tony Stark in the Avenger series and not so much as an ex-convict. But the actor did in fact spend a year behind bars. In his younger days – from 1996 to 2001 – he was convicted of drug possession numerous times. In 1999 he missed a drug test while on probation and was sentenced to three years in prison. He ended up only having to serve one year.
Lil Wayne
Rapper Lil Wayne was also sent to prison after being caught in possession of drugs. In 2010 he served a year in prison after drugs and illegal weapons were found in his tour bus. He was let out four months early in the end.
Mark Wahlberg
If there is one person who completely turned their life around, it’s Mark Wahlberg. Before rising to fame, the 16-year-old actor attacked two Vietnamese men with a stick while spurting out racist slurs. One of the men lost his eyesight due to the attack. Mark was sentenced to two years in prison for his crime but ended up serving just 45 days.
Lindsay Lohan
Fools don’t repeat their folly, but this doesn’t apply to Lindsay Lohan. The Mean Girls actress served multiple prison sentences for driving while intoxicated and for violating probation. In 2007 she was incarcerated for one hour, in 2010 she served two weeks, and in 2011 she was imprisoned for a month. In 2011 she was also sentenced to a month of house arrest.
Michelle Rodriguez
In the Fast and Furious movie, actress Michelle Rodriguez’s character was a master car driver, but in her personal life she didn’t seem to have as much control of the wheel. After being caught drunk driving and violating probation, she was sentenced to six months in prison. She was released after just 18 days due to overcapacity in the prison she was at.
Paul McCartney
Flying to a different country? Make sure you don’t have any drugs in your pockets, especially not large amounts. Paul McCartney seemed to have missed the memo. In 1980, the singer was sentenced to nine days in prison after being caught with half a pound of marijuana at the airport in Tokyo.
