Aha: this is how often you should actually wash your jeans
Although we naturally prefer to parade around in airy dresses, a good pair of jeans can’t be missing in your wardrobe. The care of your jeans is just a little different than most garments. Because how often should you actually put them in the wash?
We are often guilty of wearing the same jeans several times in a row. It is sometimes said that it is better not to wash jeans too often to preserve their quality, but is that really true? And how hygienic is it really? Beau Monde found out for you.
Rule of thumb
There is no set rule for how often you should wash jeans, but the general rule of thumb is to wash them only when really necessary. This means that your jeans can use a wash after an average of 5 to 10 wears, depending on how intensively you wear them. Have you spent a day on the couch? Then they can last longer without a wash. Have you been busy or did a stain occur? Then you’ll have to do a wash, of course.
What about hygiene?
It might sound a bit unhygienic to wash your jeans as little as possible, but it’s not that bad. Jeans are made of a sturdy fabric that is less likely to absorb odors. Still, some people swear by putting their jeans in the freezer because this would kill bacteria. Unfortunately, this is a fable: bacteria do stop multiplying, but they do not die. As a result, the musty smell of the jeans will not go away.
Still feel that your pants need a freshening up without stains? Then air them out on the clothesline. This will keep your favorite pair of jeans nice and fresh for longer!
Keep jeans looking good for longer
Washing too often can affect the fabric and color of your jeans, especially if you have dark jeans. Fortunately, there are a few tricks to prevent this from happening. For example, always choose a cold wash cycle and turn your jeans inside out.
Also wise: avoid using harsh detergents and fabric softeners, and don’t put your jeans in the dryer. Air drying is better for the fibers and prevents your jeans from shrinking or losing their shape. Good for you!
