Spray perfume in your hair: smart or harmful?

It may be tempting, but it’s not healthy.

Of course, we would prefer to appear with a fresh fragrance . A spray of perfume on the neck, on the wrists, behind your ears, et voilà! But can you actually spray your perfume in your hair? Here’s how.

Bad for your hair and scalp

Yes, your locks smell great when you spray perfume in them, but it turns out you pay a high price for it. You can ruin the healthy pH balance of your scalp. Perfumes contain a lot of alcohol (to preserve the scent longer), but we also know that alcohol doesn’t make your skin happy at all.

Alcohol can make your scalp very irritated and dry. Don’t want that, because that in turn can result in flakes, and we always want to avoid those dandruffy dead skin cells. Oh, and it’s also harmful to your locks. Alcohol can also dry out your locks. Do you spray perfume into the ends of your hair once? Then the damage is manageable, but in the long run it can cause dry hair.

Drying out

Sophie Hilton, founder of Not Another Salon, also knows that perfume can have a negative effect on your scalp and locks. “We don’t always think about how high the alcohol content in perfume is when we spray it down our necks,” she tells Stylist. She continues that as much as a third of the perfume is immediately absorbed when we spray it there. And because our locks sit against our necks, as much as a third of the perfume ends up ín our hair. But it could be worse, Hilton knows. “Some women also spray perfume directly into their hair, which leads to dryness.” Clearly, then, you shouldn’t spray perfume in your hair anymore.

Alternative: hair mist

By the way, there are alternatives to make your hair smell nice when you don’t feel like washing it again, such as hair mists. Not only do they make your mane smell great, but some also have a moisturizing effect on your locks. You can’t get a better win-win situation!
